The staff members and safety:

• What type of training has their staff members had?
• What is the number of hours they received in their training?
• How do they provide security for the grounds, buildings, and Community?
• How many staff members do they have on duty throughout the day and how many are on duty during the night?
• How many staff members are there to the resident ratio during each shift?
• Do they have an individual care plan for each of the residents?
• Do they have a nurse on duty 24/7? If they do not, what are the hours that they have a nurse on duty?
• Do they let their residents be seen by a physical at the facility?
• Does their facility have the ability to provide care for resident’s that have mobility problems?
• What are the different kinds of medical services their facility provides?
• Do they allow their residents to arrange for outside care?
• Does the facility have the capabilities of handling those that are disruptive or physically aggressive?

Ask The Following Questions About The Community Policies

• What kinds of care services do they not provide?
• What are their procedures for transitioning residents from Memory Care to a Skilled nursing facility?
• Do they assess the resident before admitting them?
• What type of policies does their facility have on medical emergencies?
• What are their discharge policies?
• Do they keep the family members updated regularly on their resident’s care?
• Is the facilities housing and caring in a fee structure together or are they billed separately?

Questions Regarding The Treatment And Features For Memory Care

• What type of living arrangements does the facility have to offer?
• Does the Community offer the resident’s a walkway?
• Does the facility offer a dining program?
• Does the facility group residents by their cognitive level?
• Do they offer activities for therapy such as pet, music, and reminiscence?
• Does the facility have the ability to provide care for those with Parkinson’s?
• Do they offer care for resident’s who have Vascular Dementia?
• Does this facility provide light treatments?
• Does this facility offer Assisted Living for those with Alzheimer’s with a care bridge program for resident’s that are in the early stages?

Do What Your Gut Instincts Are Telling You

• Is their facilities philosophy going to correlate with yours (or your loved ones)?
• Will their residents be able to be reached from the outside?
• Will you (or your loved one) be able to navigate around in this Community?
• Did their staff members appear to be friendly? And did they seem to be experience in caring for the resident’s?
